8 July 2015 - San Diego Comic Con starts today and I'll be at Artist Alley booth BB-01. Come say hi. I'll be drawing sketches and signing my books and comics. Also, Gabriel Rodriguez, artist of Little Nemo: Return to Slumberland, and I will have signings on Thursday and Friday at the IDW booth.

7 April 2014 - The San Diego Opera is in upheaval over their announced permanent closure at the end of this season. Massenet's Don Quixote may be their final production. I sketched at the dress rehearsal last week and the result is on the San Diego Opera blog Aria Serious. After four seasons of sketching at the San Diego Opera, I'll be sad for it to end. The controversy over this development has gotten pretty ugly. What the outcome will be, who knows? Meanwhile, you can see my Don Quixote sketches by clicking here.

15 March 2014 - I'll be producing L. Frank Baum's stage musical The Tik-Tok Man of Oz in August at Winkie Con 50. A Kickstarter campaign to raise the funds to mount a fully-staged performance is happening right now. Click here to pledge and become part of this vintage theatre project. You can even watch my starring role in the Kickstarter video--but don't worry, I won't be reprising that on stage!

The second issue of Road is also out and the third will be on sale imminently. My story is "Happily Ever After," which originally appeared in How Beautiful the Ordinary. And issue #76 of Bart Simpson Comics has a four-page story drawn by me to a script by Evan Dorkin. Feb 2008 - Salon.com has Douglas Wolk's extremely nice review of Betrayal and Age of Bronze as a whole. I'm particularly gratified by his attention to detail. Wolk is certainly not to blame for the way the commentary after his article quickly descends to the ridiculous. Ah--the age of the internet!

Nov 2007 - During my late-October signing tour in France, I was interviewed on Laurent Goumarre's Minuit/Dix on France Culture radio. At first I didn't really know what a big deal France Culture radio is, but as I mentioned my upcoming interview to people, France Culture's importance became clear. It's sort of the NPR of France. As the night of the interview approached I grew more and more nervous. When the publishers of the French edition of Age of Bronze were explaining to me the way to the studio, they pointed to my tourist map of Paris. The radio station building was actually ON the map!--a little drawing of it with its name. My nerves were not calmed. But it turned out to be a blast. Most radio interviews I do are by telephone. Only one other has been in a studio--a college radio station where the equipment was definitely not state-of-the-art. Minuit/Dix was slick and shiny. It's hard to judge how an oral interview's going when I'm in the middle it, but I think this one went well--that's what everyone told me, anyway. And I had a good time. Jean-Baptiste Soufron, the co-host, blogs about it here (in French). You can listen to the Oct. 29 broadcast here (in French--my French-speaking ability is not presently sufficient for the radio and I had a translator). The Minuit/Dix website has photos in the studio.

Oct 2007 - Click here to see a bunch of cartoonists in costume from Hallowe'ens past, including me as a Frank Miller ninja.

July 2007 - I spent most of last week at San Diego Comic Con International 2007. One of the most frequent questions people asked me was, "When will the next Age of Bronze volume be available?" My best estimate as of this date (July 30) is mid-September. I still have four pages to draw and the forematter and backmatter to finish. Then it'll be off to Image Comics and from thence to the printer, to the distributor, and finally to the sales shelf. Please be patient--Betrayal Part One is on its way!

July 2007 - As of July 23, the art for Age of Bronze #26 is at the publisher, Image Comics. The finished issue should be on sale within the next few weeks. Better late than never.

I met Sarah and her production team last summer while I was visiting Troy and Tenedos. You can read about that encounter here.

The trip was magnificent. Standing on the actual site of Troy was satisfying, hiking for miles all over the Troad was exhausting, riding a bicycle around Tenedos (Bozcaada) was wonderful, and meeting members of the Troy Project excavation team was thrilling. The mosquitoes, however, were not a welcome experience.

Free Books, publisher of Age of Bronze in Italian, offers a free downloadable Italian version of the Age of Bronze map on their web site. (You need Adobe Acrobat to view it.)

August 2006 - I'm excited to plug the new book Helen of Troy by Margaret George, the best-selling author of The Memoirs of Cleopatra and Mary, Called Magdalene. It's yet another telling of the story of the Trojan War, and just out from Viking. The author and I corresponded about story sources and other pertinent things while she was writing the book and she has graciously acknowledged Age of Bronze within. I've so far avoided contemporary retellings of the Trojan War by other authors, but this is almost too tempting to resist. I did break down and see the Peterson Troy film two years ago, so maybe I'll allow myself to break down again. (Not, I'm certain, that there's any justifiable comparison between Margaret George's Helen of Troy and that lackluster movie.)

The text is in French. Although it's not available here on this website, you can find it, among other places, at Amazon.France for 14.25 euros (approximately $20 in USD) and at Amazon.Canada for $26.55 Canadian (about the same price).

Mar 2006 - The declining sales of the comic book serialization of Age of Bronze is in the news lately. I appreciate all the supportive response from readers. You guys are great! But a bit of information seems to have been generally overlooked: the book collection sales aren't in any trouble! It's not a question of Age of Bronze's survival, but a question of format. I don't really care in what format someone reads Age of Bronze; I simply want it to be read. So if any of you wants to buy the book collections, please go ahead. But understand that buying an Age of Bronze graphic novel doesn't help sales of the comic book serialization.

The New York Times says this about the show: "Broadway revisited the land of Oz in a big way with Wicked. Now the writer and director Edward Einhorn is returning there in a small way -- but an exquisitely ingenious one . . . Mr. Einhorn's production takes place in two such houses, based on the illustrations of Eric Shanower . . . in ways that are truly enchanting."

Sept 2005-Jan 2006 - An in-depth discussion of Age of Bronze began September 5 at the Captain Comics Message Board.
